FAQ
Q: How can I have your FAP generator / speech synthesizer
for use with XfacePlayer/XfaceClient?
A: For
APML to fap generation, Xface uses an external tool called
expml2fap for the time being. You should contact
Piero
Cosi, who is the head of the efforts for that project.
You can use SMIL-Agent (with keyframe mode) instead of
MPEG-4 mode with Xface freely though.
Q: I downloaded the source code but cannot compile it, what
should I do?
A: Have you read this document?
Q: How can I modify a muscle in Alice
model, for example there are no "Nose" movement in Alice
model, can I add it myself?
A: Yes, absolutely, here is how you can
do it; open XfaceEd and load alice.fdp first and switch to
FDP pane.
1. choose "Nose" from the combo box on the left.
2. Choose "9.3" from the next combo box.
3. Choose face mesh (not hair or eyes, just face surface)
from "Affects" combo box.
4. Press + button to add an influence.
5. Choose RaisedCosInfluenceSph (or another) type of
influence from the table, 1st item.
6. Set Weight value as 1 (you can set any value you like).
7. Set the FAP value as 61, 62, 63 or 64 (nose related FAPs).
7* You can repeat steps 4-5-6-7 for every FAP value above,
i.e. 61, 62, 63, 64. Each FAP should have an influence
defined for itself.
8. Press F8 and switch to vertex selection.
9. With Control+Left Mouse button select the nosetip on the
mesh, a green dot should be placed there.
10. Select some other vertices around by left mouse button
(or press right mouse button and hold it pressed to select a
rectangular area of vertices).
Now you are done, you can go to the Preview tab and choose
FAP 61, etc and play with the nose. Do not forget to save
the alice.fdp before closing XfaceEd!
